Product Introduction

The titanium-copper cathode target beam, also known as the PCB cathode target crossbeam, is a core moving conductive component in a fully automated vertical continuous VCP electroplating production line. It integrates three core functions: high-current conductive transport, PCB carrier load-bearing, and gantry reciprocating positioning. The product is manufactured using a composite process of explosive welding and hot-rolled diffusion metallurgy. It features an internal high-purity copper core fully encapsulated in an industrial-grade pure titanium layer. Exposed copper conductive contact surfaces are provided at both ends for stable power supply in conjunction with the gantry carbon brush power supply system. The outer titanium layer completely isolates the cathode from various acidic electroplating solutions such as copper sulfate, tin plating, and nickel plating, preventing copper core corrosion and impurity precipitation. Compared to the drawbacks of traditional pure copper cathode targets (rapid corrosion and wear) and pure titanium cathode targets (poor conductivity and high power consumption), the titanium-copper composite cathode target beam maintains stable resistance under long-term reciprocating movement, reducing tank voltage, saving electroplating power, significantly extending replacement cycles, and improving PCB plating uniformity while reducing pinholes and pitting defects. It is widely compatible with VCP vertical continuous electroplating lines, fully automated PCB copper plating, tin plating, nickel plating, and precious metal electroplating processes.

Product Features and Applications

Product Advantages

01/

The three-in-one conductive, load-bearing, and mobile device simplifies the production line structure: a single flying target simultaneously completes conductive power supply, PCB board carrier suspension, and crane reciprocating movement positioning, replacing the separate conductive copper busbar + load-bearing crossbeam solution, reducing multiple contact points, lowering the overall circuit resistance, simplifying the electroplating crane mechanical structure, and reducing the difficulty of equipment operation and maintenance.

02/

Optimized carbon brush contact surface for continuous, stable, and low-loss conductivity: The exposed high-gloss copper conductive ends at both ends, combined with the continuous sliding contact of the crane carbon brush, result in a large conductive contact surface and stable resistance. Compared to the direct conductive solution with titanium surface, the overall electroplating saves more than 25% of electricity, reduces carbon brush arcing, overheating and erosion problems, and extends the service life of carbon brush consumables.

03/

Fatigue-resistant, high-strength structure, suitable for high-speed reciprocating electroplating lines: The titanium-copper metallurgical composite structure combines the toughness of copper with the rigidity of titanium. It is not easily bent or deformed under long-term high-frequency reciprocating movement and start-stop impact, ensuring that the pole spacing of all PCB boards on the entire flying target is completely consistent, the plating thickness is uniform, and the uniformity of copper in PCB holes is effectively controlled.

04/

Full titanium layer sealed protection to prevent chemical contamination of the board surface: The entire area immersed in the electroplating solution is fully covered with titanium material. The titanium material does not react with copper sulfate, tin and nickel electroplating solutions, and there is no copper ion precipitation to contaminate the bath solution; avoiding copper particles, pinholes and color difference defects on the PCB board surface, greatly reducing the frequency of chemical replacement and saving electroplating consumable costs.

05/

Extended service life and reduced production line downtime losses: The titanium layer is resistant to corrosion from various acidic electroplating solutions for PCBs, and its service life is 8-10 times that of pure copper plating targets, eliminating the need for frequent disassembly and polishing; it significantly reduces production line downtime and maintenance time, improves the uptime of fully automated VCP plating lines, and results in lower overall procurement and maintenance costs in the long run.

Application Areas

01/

Automated electroplating industry for PCB circuit boards: VCP vertical continuous copper plating line, automatic tin plating line, chemical nickel-gold plating line, cathode moving target beam.

02/

High-end precision circuit board manufacturing: FPC flexible boards, IC carrier boards, high-frequency and high-speed boards, and conductive targets for thick copper PCB electroplating production lines.

03/

Hardware continuous electroplating industry: fully automatic gantry barrel plating and rack plating production line with moving cathode conductive beam.

04/

Hydrometallurgical industry: Anode conductive components for electrolytic refining and electrowinning processes of non-ferrous metals such as copper and nickel.

05/

Upgrading and renovation of old electroplating production lines: a renovation plan to replace pure copper targets and pure titanium targets that corrode quickly and consume a lot of electricity.

Professional Consultation Q&A

Q1: What is the core difference between a titanium-copper target pole and a regular titanium-clad copper target pole?

A1: The design goals of the two are completely different: ordinary titanium-clad copper rods are static electrolytic conductive components with no requirements for reciprocating movement fatigue; titanium-copper flying target rods are optimized for the high-frequency reciprocating movement conditions of PCB electroplating cranes, strengthening fatigue resistance, bending deflection resistance, carbon brush sliding conductive end structure, and matching standardized PCB hanging ear positioning structure, specially adapted to the VCP automatic electroplating line moving cathode system, with significantly upgraded impact resistance and wear resistance.

Q2: Will the electroplating solution corrode the copper core at the exposed copper ends of the target?

A2: No. The conductive copper end is located above the surface of the electroplating tank and only slides in contact with the carbon brushes of the crane, without coming into contact with the acidic electroplating solution throughout the process; the rod and lugs immersed in the tank are all completely covered and sealed with titanium, and the welds are treated with titanium anti-corrosion sealant, completely isolating them from corrosive media, so there is no risk of copper core corrosion.

Q3: During high-speed reciprocating operation, will the flying target deform, leading to uneven PCB plating?

A3: No. The product is made of titanium-copper metallurgical composite molding. The bending rigidity of the composite profile is much higher than that of single copper or titanium profiles. After millions of cycles of fatigue testing, the deflection is stable at ≤1.5mm/m. All products undergo full-load deflection testing before leaving the factory to ensure that the spacing between the anode and cathode of all PCB boards on the entire target is uniform and the plating thickness is uniform and controllable.
